Hope Clubs

Hope Clubs consist of children from 14 schools in need of psychosocial support. Teachers identify these children, who are often orphaned or vulnerable. Each club meets weekly and is led by youth leaders trained by Mamkhulu.org, providing a safe space for the children after school.

During club meetings, youth leaders facilitate discussions on various relevant topics, such as bullying, stigma, and challenges at home. They also organize games, sports, drama activities, and singing sessions. The primary goal of the clubs is to offer children positive role models in the community to whom they can turn to for help and support, fostering a sense of belonging at school.

Youth leaders conduct home visits for each child, mentoring him/her and assisting with school-related needs while coordinating with teachers to stay informed about the child’s circumstances. They also select the most vulnerable children to attend Hope Camps. Mamkhulu.org youth leaderes receive a small monthly stipend in order to support their own families.

To date we have:

  • 14 schools involved
  • 50 kids per club, on average
  • 700 children served each month
